ONLINE SECONDARY RESOURCES
We have created a series of videos to support Christian RE input in schools. Each of these videos is available on request: contact us at bookings@encounterchristianity.co.uk
GCSE
Turn the Other Cheek Students are asked to weigh up whether violence can ever be justified. We examine what the Bible has to say on the subject and judge whether Jesus was a pacifist.
Mission and Evangelism In this video we examine what ‘mission’ means and why some Christians feel compelled to reach out to others and share their faith. Using real-life examples, we analyse how effective Christian mission can be.
Sin, Salvation and Atonement Students are asked to consider the definition of sin, the reasons behind it and its consequences. We explore the Christian belief that salvation is free through the doctrine of atonement.
Baptism In this video we examine the importance of baptism for Christians, particularly in relation to the life and teaching of Jesus. We consider the symbolism involved in baptism, and address questions such as adult versus infant baptism and the meaning of baptism by the Holy Spirit.
KS3
Holy Communion Students have the opportunity to consider the importance of this sacrament for Christians and the different approaches to celebrating it by various Christian denominations. We examine the roots of Holy Communion in the Old Testament and in Jesus’ Last Supper, explaining the significance of the bread and wine for Christians today.
Creation A short introduction to different Christian views of creation, including the nature of the Trinity. Students will hear from local Christians explaining why this belief is so fundamental to their faith.
Death and the Afterlife A short introduction to different Christian views on life after death, including different interpretations of heaven and hell. Students will hear from local Christians explaining their beliefs on this issue.
Christianity in the Media This lesson examines whether it is possible to accurately and fairly represent a person’s beliefs in the media. We discuss bias in reporting and how that can negatively impact people, as well as evaluating two recent media stories about Christians in the news.
ALL YEAR GROUPS
A Christian Response to the Removal of the Colston Statue In light of the Mayor of Bristol’s words highlighting the way Jesus confronted injustice in the New Testament, we asked a number of local Christians for their response.
Q&A videos We have made a number of online resources responding to pupil’s questions about the big issues in the Christian faith. We are happy to create specific videos responding to your pupils’ questions, using local Christians’ testimony. We require approximately 3 weeks to make these resources, allowing time to interview Christians and compile their answers in video format.
